Title: Part-time Nurse
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Jail Physician and/or Warden, Lieutenant or Nurse Supervisor, the Part-time Nurse will be responsible for directing and supervising the delivery of direct patient care to inmates of the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. The Nurse is responsible for administering and performing the essential functions of the job, and other duties that may be required. Employee may be subject to serious physical violence during everyday job duties. Excellent attendance is required for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS: Current Ohio license as in any classification of Nursing; a minimum of three (3) years nursing experience. Previous experience in a Nursing field of employment and/or the equivalent combination of education.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES: Duties below are intended to depict tasks of classification.
10% (1) Performs work that ensures assigned tasks are completed according to quality standards, facility policy and current governmental regulations.
10% (2) Makes rounds to monitor the health condition of inmates; records and reports changes in health condition of inmates. Schedule, set-up and assist Doctor during Doctor’s Clinic. Packages medications to be dispensed by Corrections Officers while Medical Staff is not on duty. Notifies Corrections Officers for transportation when ordered by jail physician. Attends department head meetings when ordered.
55% (3) Administers medication, gives injections, charts medication administered; ensures that medication given and treatment correspond to the attending physician’s order, review medical screening forms and do appropriate follow-up, verification of meds and current TX’s with family physician; maintain stock and inventory of all medical supplies and ensure that all medicines are locked up and secured, performs professional functions e.g. inserts and removes catheters, irrigates catheters; administers oxygen, performs other related nursing care functions.
25% (4) Receives and gives shift report; prepares and maintains various records and required reports; attends meeting. Assist the Rx and Tx sheets, transfer sheets, and yearly inoculations, vaccinations and TB testing. In-service education to staff and inmates. Talks with inmates to provide contact and stimulation and assess individual needs.
Comment 1:
“The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis immediately after appointment to test for illegal drug use. The jail will decline to extend a final offer of employment to any applicant with a verified positive test result. Also, an applicant with a positive test result will not be considered for any position with the jail for a period of two years. Any employee, testing positive for illegal drug use during random screening while employed with the jail will be terminated.''
Hours of Work:
On shift every Saturday and Sunday 5pm - 10pm
As needed for call offs and vacation coverage
